Adhd Tip - How To Be Sure That Your Child Really Deserves A Diagnosis Of Adhd

Published by admin | Filed under Education

ADHD behaviors like inattention, hyperactivity, and carelessness, among many others, are not exclusive problems.

It is truly amazing to know that the same behavioral patterns and symptoms that characterize ADHD, are also quite common among many other suspected issues in children.

Despite recent numbers suggesting that only 5-10% of school aged children suffer from ADHD, many people will offer “ADHD” as a cause or explanation for children struggling in school or having difficulties in other areas of life.

Before you jump to the conclusion that your child might suffer from ADHD, I urge you to consider that something else might account for your child’s “ADHD-like” behavior.

I have seen far too many cases of children who are diagnosed with ADHD, while certain obvious circumstances and events are overlooked.

Before assuming that your child might have ADHD, I encourage you to think about the following:

  • What is going on in your life that might be affecting your child?
  • What personal struggles are you dealing with right now that your child is likely more than well aware of?
  • What is going on in school that might be affecting your child?
  • What major changes or shifts have occurred in the home or your child’s life?

In many circumstances, a child’s behavior can be related to what they are observing in their world.

Remember, it’s not always about how you think your child should react, as much as it is about how your child is reacting.

It’s too easy to allow this to happen.

Many parents and teachers alike are so accustomed to certain beliefs and behavioral responses, that we all jump to conclusions.

When it comes to your child, I strongly encourage you to consider what else might be going on that could account for recent behavioral changes before making a connection to ADHD.
