Artificial Turf A Practical Choice for Home Owners | ArticlesBase.com
Published by admin | Filed under Business
David Chaney, who served as the dean of the North Carolina State university College of Textiles in the 1960s gave the world a wonderful present in the form of artificial turf. It was a significant breakthrough in the development of an eco-friendly product. The turf created by Chaney was initially used in the world of sports, especially to prepare indoor stadiums for the baseball and soccer tournaments. It was not until the 1970s that artificial turf was started to be used in the outdoors as well. Both USA and Canada welcomed this new innovation with much fanfare.
With the introduction of improved quality fake grasses, artificial turf was now used in the outdoors too. The indoor and outdoor playgrounds made with artificial turf soon became popular and the reason was obvious. In North America, baseball and soccer are played throughout the year. But in the colder seasons, it becomes difficult and even impossible in some areas to hold outdoor tournaments. But artificial turf had offered a practical solution to this problem; when it is snowing outside, just hold the tournament in the indoor stadium made with artificial turf. Although creating a natural grass play field is actually possible, it is impractical from the point of view of maintenance costs. It becomes too expensive to make it commercially viable.
More sophisticated synthetic grasses came up in the 1990s and with that artificial turf became a household name. Since that time, artificial grasses started to be widely used for the landscaping purposes. Not only for private residences, commercial properties also started to make use of this eco-friendly product to decorate the exterior of their properties. There are several reasons why artificial turf became so popular over a short span of time.
First of all, an artificial lawn is low on maintenance— both in terms of money and efforts. It takes only a few hours to install artificial turf and it is a long term investment. The look and feel of an artificial lawn is not dependent on weather conditions. So with an artificial turf, you get a healthy looking lawn in front of your home throughout the year. It can withstand more wear and tear effects than a natural one.
Another advantage of artificial lawn is: it is a green product. By installing an artificial turf in your property, you can save gallons of water annually. Therefore an artificial turf is ideal for the areas with arid environment.
The elderly couples find artificial turf particularly handy. In fact, artificial lawns perfectly complement the high-paced modern urban lifestyle, where you have little time for taking care of your lawn. Long lasting, low on maintenance and natural looking—artificial turf has many virtues. But your most important reason for investing in one can be that it makes the most practical choice.
