Licensed Practical Nurse Wage
Published by admin | Filed under Education
Learn about the accredited programs available and courses that you will have to take in order to become a licensed practical nurse.
The licensed practical nurse (LPN) wage varies based on a lot of different factors. Some of the most important determinants of salary include experience and qualifications, the location where the LPN works, and the type of institution.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, as of May 2007 the mean annual licensed practical nurse salary was $38,940. There is a wide range of salaries being paid to LPNs however, with the lowest paid 10% of LPNs earning less than $27,370 per year and the highest paid 10% of LPNs making more than $52,160 per year.
According to PayScale, the experience an LPN has also makes a difference in the earnings. An LPN with less than one year of experience makes a median annual salary of $29,391, which is a lot less than the $38,184 mean annual salary of someone with 20 or more years of experience. The wage for an LPN seems to rise as experience increases, which is to be expected.
In some areas of the country the licensed practical nursew wage is higher than in others. Of course you also have to take into account the cost of living in an area when you are looking at the salary if you are trying to use this information to figure out where you should get a nursing job since you need to figure out where you would have the most purchasing power. The five states that have the highest LPN salaries are Connecticut ($50,950), District of Columbia ($49,620), Massachusetts ($48,790), New Jersey ($48,750), and Rhode Island ($47,090).
Four out of five of the industries with the highest licensed practical nurse wages do not really employ many people (only between 80 and 250 people each industry), although if you can get the work the wages are great as they are between $43,490 and $50,850 per year, depending on the industry.
The best bet for a high paying LPN job would be in the Employment Services industry, since this is one of the top paying industries as well as one of the top five industries that employ the most LPNs.
The average salary for LPns in this industry is around $43,700 per year. The other top employers for LPNs are Nursing Care Facilities ($40,550), General Medical & Surgical Hospitals ($37,790), Offices of Physicians ($34,820), and Home Health Care Services ($40,440).
